Through sports from streets and squares to nature and tourism

This year’s 20th edition of Popolana, a traditional sports and recreational event, carries the slogan “Run into action, support our community!”

As in previous years, the event emphasizes not only a sporting spirit but also a humanitarian character. All proceeds from the sale of T-shirts (donations according to individual possibilities) are intended for the Association of Persons with Disabilities Rovinj-Rovigno, and the collected funds will be used to equip their new premises.

The Saturday program, April 11, will take place at the former railway station (Kolodvorsko šetalište). From 11:00 to 13:00, free horseback riding will be organized in cooperation with the “Sveta Eufemija” Equestrian Club and Haber Farm, and the only requirement for participation is purchasing a Popolana T-shirt. In addition to horseback riding, the Scout Troop “Tino Lorenzetto” will distribute fritule at their stand.

On Sunday, April 12, the program continues at the basketball courts near Hotel Eden. The recreational part of the event includes walking and running over 5 km – a route from the basketball courts to the Delfin swimming pool, returning through the Zlatni rt forest park. This will be followed by a guided cycling tour of 20–25 km. The competitive part includes a 10 km race and a half marathon, which is being held for the 18th consecutive year.

This year, Popolana will once again be enriched by members of local sports associations, who will present their activities and demonstrate their sports disciplines. The event promotes the importance of a healthy lifestyle, recreation, and solidarity, and a large turnout of citizens, recreational athletes, and sports enthusiasts is expected.

The goal of this event, in addition to promoting sports, a healthy lifestyle, enriching the tourist offer, and participating in sports competitions, is also to raise public awareness about volunteer work and encourage as many people as possible to take part in humanitarian activities, promoting community spirit and cooperation.

Besides its sporting and humanitarian character, Popolana is also important for the promotion of the city, with emphasis on its natural beauty and preserved environment, something the city can truly be proud of.
