772 CASTLES, PALACES AND THE ARISTOCRACY

The 33.5 km long trail begins in Svetvinčenat and connects both the cultural and natural heritageof Istria. Passing through the villages of Vidulini and Krančići, the town of Bale, the village ofPižanovac and Burići, returning to Svetvinčenat and ending in front of the magnificent Morosini-Grimani Castle. The trail leads from Svetvinčenat to Bale and passes alongside St. Peter’s Church,located on a high rock in the middle of the forest, and providing enchanting views. The largestbuilding in Bale, the Soardo-Bembo Palace, was built as a residential palace at the beginning ofthe 16th century between the two towers within the town's walls. In the beginning it belonged tothe Soardo family, whilst in 1618, with the marriage of Veronica Soardo to Alvise Bembo, the palacethen moved into the ownership of the Bembo family.
