545 To the Istrian Tavern

Set in a charming landscape near Poreč, the Veleniki Trail offers a blend of nature, tradition, and the authentic ambience of rural Istria. This circular route starts and ends in the peaceful village of Veleniki, where free parking is available and the atmosphere reflects the relaxed spirit of a typical Istrian village.

The trail leads through varied scenery — from wide white roads and vineyards to shaded forest paths. It begins in the village center, climbing gently toward the Maximus Agri hiking and cycling trail, which connects coastal and inland Istria. After about 550 meters, it reaches this spacious gravel road, which continues for about 1.2 km toward the picturesque village of Filipini.

A short 300-meter paved section reconnects with Maximus Agri, passing a quiet pond with a bench and table — an ideal pause surrounded by the sounds of nature. After nearly 2 km, the route becomes a newly filled white road and then narrows into a forest trail winding through deep shade, gradually returning toward Veleniki.

The final 800 meters follow again a wider gravel road that gently leads back into the village and the end of the route.

After completing the walk, we recommend visiting Konoba Daniela, known for excellent local cuisine and warm hospitality, or Sempervivum, where you can sample and purchase homemade rakija, liqueurs and wines — a true taste of Istria in a bottle.
